The Steel Re-rolling Mills Association of India (SRMA, West Bengal)

The Steel Re-rolling Mills Association of India (SRMA, West Bengal), was established in 1940 under the sponsorship of the Government of India. The late J.C. Mahindra, Advisor on Steel Supplies to the Government of India, served as the Chairman. The primary objective of SRMA is to diversify the uses and applications of the steel sector. Since its inception in Kolkata (WB) seven decades ago, the association has maintained a proactive connection with the state, and center to form policies suited to the steel industry’s needs. Currently, SRMA has around 222 members pan India with 100+ WB members, with a total production capacity of more than 20 Million MT per annum.

The West Bengal Sponge Iron Manufacturers Association (WBSIMA)

The West Bengal Sponge Iron Manufacturers Association (WBSIMA) , was established in 2005 as a registered Society with its headquarters in Kolkata. Since its establishment, the association has consistently maintained a proactive relationship with the state and central authorities to develop policies that cater to the unique requirements of the steel industry. Currently, WBSIMA has 62 iron ore consuming members inc D.R.I (Sponge Iron) and downstream units under its umbrella. These members account for a capacity of 9 MTPA of Sponge Iron. The Units are located in Paschim Bardhhaman, Bankura, Purulia, and Jhargram districts in the southwestern part of the state, within a radius of about 10-100 kms of the coal mines. Most of the Units are in the MSME and large sector.

Pellet Manufactures Association of India

PMAI is the official industry body of Pellets Manufacturers in India. It was set up in 2013 with a fundamental premise to have a common forum for its members to share and exchange each other’s views and problems, to promote and protect the interests of the Indian Pellet Industry. PMAI members include stand-alone Pellet plants as well units producing down – stream products like Sponge iron and finished Steel.

The Association, in its multi-dimensional role, represents the Indian Pellet Industry and provides a common platform for regular interface with the Government of India and other regulatory authorities. PMAI endeavours to provide essential information for decision making in the current fast changing business environment.

SIMA (Sponge Iron Manufacturers Association)

India took its first tentative step towards economic liberalization in 1991. The economy was in the midst of a radical change and the Sponge Iron Manufacturers Association (SIMA) was constituted and started operation from 11 February 1992. It was officially registered under the Society Registration Act XXI of 1860 on 31 January 1994. The overall mood was of great dynamism, qualitative change and greater choices. It was felt, that if the government did not facilitate growth at this time, Indian economy would slip back into the moribund 70’s. Therefore, the fundamental premise behind the formation of the Association was to promote and protect the interest of the Indian Sponge Iron Industry.

SIMA has come a long way since inception to bring all sponge iron manufacturers together. Now in a multi-dimensional role, it represents the Indian DRI Industry and provides a common platform for regular interface with the Government of India and other regulatory authorities. n the current economic scenario, the role of SIMA has significantly enhanced to maintain a coherent plan, which represents in totality, the requirements and hardships faced by the industry.

West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (WBIDC)

West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (WBIDC) formed in 1967 under the Companies Act, is the premier nodal agency of West Bengal’s Industry, Commerce and Enterprises Department. WBIDC is responsible for conceptualization, development, growth and facilitation of industry, investment and infrastructure in West Bengal. Over the years the corporation is actively engaged in catalyzing investment through promotion and marketing of West Bengal as an investment destination.
