China has seen tight coal supply-demand balance easing and inventories climb at all links. This was mainly attributed to the continuous release of coal production capacity in 2021 and 2022, adjustment of coal import policies, implementation of supply guarantee campaign and related policies. Entering 2023, prices of both domestic and imported thermal coal dropped from high levels, providing favorable basis for the Chinese economy.
